Mark Cresse was born in St. Albans, New York on September 21, 1951. Mark has spent 30 years of his life either playing or coaching professional baseball. Mark Cresse graduated from Marina High School in Huntington Beach, California in 1969. After high school Mark played his freshman season at Cal State University at Long Beach. Cresse transferred his sophomore season and played at Goldenwest Junior College in 1971. He was the second round draft pick of the St. Louis Cardinals during the winter draft of 1971. Mark Cresse was a catcher during his playing career before his coaching career began with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Mark Cresse was promoted to being the bullpen coach of the Los Angeles Dodgers by manager, Tommy Lasorda, in 1977. Cresse served as a major league coach with the Dodgers from 1977 to 1998. Mark Cresse coached in five World Series and was a member of the 1981 & 1988 World Championship teams. Cresse was also selected to be a coach for the National League All Star Team five times. The highlight of Mark Cresse's baseball career occurred in 1998 while being interviewed on National television by ESPN at the College World Series. During the interview, Brad Cresse, Mark’s son, hit a home run to deep right-center field and pointed at his Dad while rounding the bases. Mark Cresse has recently moved to Baton Rouge with his wife, Jean Ann.
