Clay Harris was born in Houston, Texas, in 1982 and is the oldest son of Vyrl Harris and the late Jodi Kennedy. His younger brother, Will Harris is an ex-LSU athlete and current Colorado Rockie. Clay graduated Slidell High in 2001 and continued his career at LSU from 2002 – 2005. His professional career began in June of 2005 when the Philadelphia Phillies drafted him in the 9th round. He now resides in Baton Rouge.

- 1998 All district, All-Parish, All-State for the Slidell high baseball team. Was named offensive MVP of the team. Set freshman varsity homerun record with nine homeruns.

- 2003 Named All-SEC first baseman at LSU
- 2003 Member of SEC Championship and College World Series team
- 2003 Member of the Cape Cod summer league Championship team.
- 2004 Pre-season All American at LSU

- 2005 Selected in the 9th round by the Philadelphia Phillies
- 2005 Played for the Batavia Muckdogs in the New York – Penn League
- 2005 Named a top-prospect for the New York – Penn League.
- 2006 Won the South Atlantic League Championship as a member of the Lakewood *Blueclaws
- Led the Blueclaws in homeruns and R.B.I’s
- 2007 Won the Florida State League Championship as a member of the Clearwater Threshers
